Dear Friends:
The thank you campaign to the President of the General Assembly and the Secretary General inspired many of you to send emails (Thank you!) - -which helped. We represent “civil society,” the non-governmental public. Most were personal emails, some represented NGOs, including support from the president of CoNGO, and many international NGOs. The ccs that were sent to me were also copied into a folder for the President of the UN General Assembly. 5WCW is now the President of the General Assembly’s Initiative for a Fifth World Conference on Women.
MOST IMPORTANT: We seek support from among the 193 member-states (countries) who belong to the UN to co-sponsor or sponsor the President of the General Assembly’s Initiative for a Fifth World Conference on Women (5WCW). Anyone from any country can initiate a grassroots effort in any country to lobby her government and her UN ambassador. It can be a personal connection with someone of influence—you may be one or two degrees of separation away from the person who can do this. Grasssroots petition are another means to inform and influence: See GoPetition.com (for countries outside of USA) SignOn.org (USA) or Change.org (international). Put a statement for 5WCW on your organization’s and personal websites.
Do your homework, plenty of information at 5wcw.org and online. Take initiative, work as a circle if you can, and send what you have accomplished to me.
We want UN Women and NGO-CSW-New York to actively support 5WCW. NGOCSW in Vienna and Geneva are supporting 5WCW, as is the US National Committee for UN Women. The High Level meeting of ECOSOC (June 2012) has accepted the written statement from Women’s World Summit Foundation “Convening of a Fifth World Conference on Women (5WCW) as a Means to Achieve MDGs” (click here to view or download text).
Everywhere I go in my more usual activities as an author/speaker/workshop leader I find women who get it how 5WCW is a means to energize a global women’s movement, bring current and next generation of women leaders together, form circles of support that can lead to a critical mass and tipping point.
for a U.N. Sponsored
5th World Conference on Women
With hope, love, perseverance and optimism,

Jean Shinoda Bolen, MD
A postscript: While my books have numerous themes, common threads are living a life of meaning, tapping into the energies of archetypes, synchronicity, and spirituality and making a difference:
